How to Win With Infinite Squirrels in Commander (Yes, Really!)

Hey there, new Planeswalker! Are you ready to take over a game of Commander with an army of unstoppable squirrels? Yes, you read that right—squirrels.

If you’re new to Magic: The Gathering, you might be wondering how do I make infinite creatures, how do I find the right cards, and how long does it take to win with squirrels?

Don’t worry! This guide will break it down step by step, so you can win games and look like a genius while doing it.

Step 1: The Cards You Need

To pull off this combo, you need two cards on the battlefield at the same time. Squirrel Nest is an enchantment that costs three mana and goes on a land, letting you tap that land to make a 1/1 squirrel. Earthcraft is an enchantment that costs two mana and lets you tap a creature to untap a basic land.

Together, these cards create a loop that gives you infinite squirrels. Tap the enchanted land to make a squirrel. Tap that squirrel to untap the land with Earthcraft. Repeat forever. With this, you have infinite squirrels. You win the game as soon as you attack with them.

Step 2: How to Get These Cards in Your Hand

Since Commander is a singleton format, you only get one copy of each card, so you’ll need ways to find these pieces. Some cheap ways to tutor for them in a green deck include Worldly Tutor, which costs one green mana and searches your deck for a creature, Enlightened Tutor, which costs one white mana and can find Earthcraft or Squirrel Nest, Sylvan Library, which helps draw key pieces faster, Harmonize, which draws three cards for four mana, and Fauna Shaman, which lets you discard a creature to find another.

Each of these speeds up how fast you assemble the combo.

Step 3: How Many Turns to Win?

Let’s assume you start the game with a typical opening hand and play normally. On turn one, you play a forest and cast a mana dork like Llanowar Elves. On turn two, you play another land and ramp with Cultivate or Kodama’s Reach. On turn three, you play Squirrel Nest if you have it or use a tutor to find it. On turn four, you cast Earthcraft, and you now have infinite squirrels.

In a perfect game, you can get infinite creatures by turn four or five. In a real game, it might take a few more turns depending on what tutors and draw spells you have.

Step 4: Winning the Game With Squirrels

Great! You have infinite squirrels, but how do you actually win? One way is to just attack. Next turn, swing with 100 or more squirrels and take out all your opponents. Another way is with Craterhoof Behemoth, a creature that costs eight mana and gives all your creatures +X/+X and trample when it enters the battlefield. If you have 50 squirrels, they all become 50/50 trampling monsters. Triumph of the Hordes is another option. It costs four mana and gives all your creatures +1/+1, trample, and infect, meaning just 10 squirrels can be game over.

Even if an opponent wipes the board, you can just remake the squirrels instantly.

Why This Combo is Awesome for Beginners

It’s easy to set up since only two enchantments are needed. It’s hard to stop because even if your board gets wiped, you can restart the loop. It’s hilarious because nobody expects to lose to squirrels.

So next time you play Commander, bring some squirrel power and watch your opponents panic. Would you try this combo in your deck? Let me know!
